Where can i find a private investor / angel for our business start ?

Where can i find a private investor / angel for our business start ?
Two qualified chartered accountants seeking to establish a financial services business serving the temporary recruitment industry, working from a base in the South West of England. A business plan has been prepared including profitability and cash flow projections covering the next five years. The plan calls for total equity investment in the region of £125k generating returns greater than 100% by the end of the second year, in what remains a growing market. In addition, the business requires seed capital or back to back finance secured by the debts of the portfolio. With the founder directors also injecting capital, we are actively seeking additional support to take the next step. Exit paths are well established for a business of this type e.g. listing or trade sale. If you would like to know more about our business proposal, please do not hesitate to contact us via email. We would be delighted to tell you more about our plans and aspirations.

Answer 1 :
I think there is a website called angelinvestor.com. it fits angel investors with new companies.
Answer 2 :
family and friends are normally easiest to get to invest in your dreams..
Answer 3 :
Search the Venture Capital firms in your area. Easiest way is to get the name of the various VC associations in England and contact them. http://www.ivca.ie is for ireland Talk over phone and then email the proposal. sHORTLIST the vc firms then. Make sure u have offers from atleast a few so that u can negotiate well for the equity partnership they ask for. If u believe really well in ur project, then instead of sharing hte equity with someone else, I'll say take bank loan or friends.
Answer 4 :
There is an association called the British Business Angels Association http://www.bbaa.org.uk/portal/ which is the National Trade Association for the UK’s Business Angel Networks and its Associates and Affiliates. They have a directory of member angel investors that you may want to contact http://www.bbaa.org.uk/portal/index.php?option=com_contact&catid=19&Itemid=57 Be sure to have a strong business plan and describe what makes your business idea stand apart. You may also want to read the article in Business 2.0 http://money.cnn.com/2006/02/28/magazines/business2/angelinvestor/index.htm to get some idea on how to present to angel investors, what they typically look for, what kind of investments they support, etc.

Is it still legal for you to be in full-time employment and be self employed in your time off?

Is it still legal for you to be in full-time employment and be self employed in your time off?
And if you can how do you be come self employed? Do you have to register as self employed? What are the financial implications as far as tax and accountants go?
Careers & Employment - 11 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
It is legal to own a business on the side, you still report income or loss on your yearly taxes from that business.
Answer 2 :
read more tips and articles on this site
Answer 3 :
you can do what ever you want as long as it is legal to make money during your off time. You just have to report you profits and pay taxes on them. You will need a license or permit to do some things. Like sell food or do electrical work. That is usually for public safety though.
Answer 4 :
Depends on contract Full time employer should have no objection. Self employment should not be in emplyed working time, should not effect working
Answer 5 :
Oh yes. But some companies put it in their contract that it must be your sole employment. If this is the case it is still legal but you are in breach of contract and make be liable to being sacked. Check with your employer or read your contract. You will also loose tax relief on the earnings from the selfemployment.
Answer 6 :
Provided your contract of employment doesn't prohibit it, it is fine. From the tax point of view, you will need to declare any earnings from your self-employed activities on a tax return and pay the appropriate NHI for that portion of your income. For calculating your taxable income you can deduct any expenses incurred 'wholly and necessarily' for the purposes of that trade. Have a look on the Inland Revenue website...it's very helpful.
Answer 7 :
yes, but your job on the side as self employed keep it between you and the door stop. why pay tax twice. easy way to avoid paying tax as self employed after work is drop your prices and take cash in hand only. the only people who would report you are the bank but thats only if you make large deposits of money. it used to be the legal limit before being reported by the bank was 10 gand, but with the current climate of extreme nervousness by institutions they may report anything over 5 grand. final advice dont pay tax twice and only take cash no cheques or visa.
Answer 8 :
You need to read the terms and conditions on your contract of employment for your permanent job. Some companies can get quite snitty about you doing part-time work in your own time, especially if you are doing anything which could be considered to be in competition with them. You'll probably need to consult with an accountant to sort out the tax, NI and VAT implications. Good luck
Answer 9 :
YES it is legal to do that, that is what i'm doing except im in a part-time job, i think you have to tell the inland revenue that you are going self-employed, also the tax people. Good luck and hope it all goes well.
Answer 10 :
why not
Answer 11 :
yes as long as it doesn't affect you full time work

What course will be the best and highest paid?

What course will be the best and highest paid?
I am 16 years old and it is coming close to leaving school, i have no idea what to do! I have a good interest in IT so i was thinking about going for a career in this. What are the highest paid jobs in IT? are IT technicians paid well? also what other jobs are high paid, such as accountants? Thanks
Technology - 4 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Vets are ludicrously well paid - dentists too. But you should do a job you are interested in - the money is only part of it - accountancy is little more than bean counting - sooooo boring. IT is in competition with India so not likely to be well paid unless you are in the Bill Gates league.
Answer 2 :
You have to be pretty specialised to get paid well in IT. Networks admins, programmers, engineers, etc. get paid well. But not break/fix technicians. General tech support doesn't pay well because everyone and their mom does it.
Answer 3 :
Don't worry about a career yet. Stick with Education for now......you're going to need it for good paying jobs anyway. Go for the A levels that you are interested in (IT?)....you can always do a very different degree from A level subjects....so no need to decide everything now. Good luck
Answer 4 :
dont worry about the money. as long as you can work and love your work, money wont matter.

Keep reading and re-reading, I promise you when in the exam you will remember far more than you think. Take that from a person who had exam phobia for years and took an exam back in October and wrote for 3 hours straight, and remembered way more than she thought. Just keep going over the material, relate your answer to the question and plan an outline before you begin to answer the question. Good luck, you will be fine :-)

is doing a degree really worth it if i want to become an accountant?

is doing a degree really worth it if i want to become an accountant?
i dont think i will be able to get into a top uni like LSE or oxford, and i've heard that from people and online informations that employers dont really care much about degrees from a university that is not very well known or doesn't has a high reputation. i also dont like the idea of studying another 3 years even though i like learning. its just that i dont think i will be able to specialise in real work accounting, degrees are just too general on everything. not everyone uses what they learn. i want to specialise as an auditor after doing ACCA (that is if i can). there are other routes to becoming an chartered accountant, as long as i do ACCA but i dont know who will employ and train me. i know i will get good A level results like 2As and Bs, and i am very hard working and determinant to achieve my dreams. so can someone please help me to decide if i should do a degree in accounting anyway and fall into a huge debt or try the working route, but if i do that who will train me
Higher Education (University +) - 2 Answers

Answer 1 :
I am no expert, but I am fairly certain that becoming an accountant requires you to have a degree. The most you could do without one is become a bookkeeper somewhere. You might also be able to work for a place like H & R Block doing taxes, but those are not accountants. You will make no where close to as much money as a CPA makes. Check out this site: http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos001.htm
Answer 2 :
I am sure that to become a chartered accountant you must go to uni, try Glasgow or Edinburgh they are respected unis and their degrees carry their weight unlike some less known ones.

How may you begin to trace costs for your different products once they are produced?

How may you begin to trace costs for your different products once they are produced?
think of the accountant’s role in helping to decide on these criteria
Other - Business & Finance - 2 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Take a course in "Cost Accounting" and you will find out how to determine all & true costs.
Answer 2 :
It is really difficult to back track to find the costs after they are produced. Certainly, engineers can identify the theoretical components of costs and pretty accurately. The accountant can use their components and put costs to those numbers. That is certainly done that way very early in the process even before production. You also can look at the things entering the process and the results and then identify overall costs but you have to be careful that there are not unusual things happening that would inflate the costs. It all depends on the accuracy of the data and how normal the process was during production.

say u do a note every day with some objctives on and u aim to complete em by the end of the day :\
Answer 2 :
i put sticky notes around and tick it when i have done or i have a TO-DO-LIST and i click or cross it out when its done
Answer 3 :
Well, I guess they're looking for an honest answer. So if you don't know the answer, is it that you don't set targets for yourself? Don't lie on an application or it could come back to haunt you and even cost you a job. It's better to tell the truth. So if you don't set targets, just say you don't and be honest. Cheers!
Answer 4 :
I diary weekly reminders of my step towards a goal and also diary monthly assessments of what more i need to do to complete this step.
Answer 5 :
Tell them that you have a wonderful system for setting and achieving targets. Let's say your Big Target is Working for their company. You then set a series of smaller targets that you check off as you accomplish them toward the bigger goal. The smaller targets might be: -get directions to the company -get your resume together -find out about the company -get your suit cleaned for the interview
Answer 6 :
I can remember the days when graduates were smart enough to answer job application questions themselves! How times have changed.

I'm 20 years old, and have never had a serious relationship before, although I have had sex. I'm more focused on my work and training to become an accountant, plus the World Cup's coming!!! :D So, as you can see, I'm not looking for a relationship although if it happens, it happens. Am I strange in any way for thinking like this?

Answer 2 :
You have to get your grammar in order for a start. You don't "do" steps you take steps. Now. to make some real money. you have to be ruthless with your employers and their customers alike. You never miss an opportunity to rip them off with a smile on your countenance, young and old, but be careful of the elderly as they are always watching points and counting their coppers. After a while it becomes second nature and you become a person with absolutely no scruples whatsoever. Enjoy your life Ha haha, ha, ha. JB.

Answer 9 :
Yea im 16, ...and in 8th grade i would go to costo buy large packs of orbit gum, skittles, and starburst and sell them for a dollar at school, I made a hundred dollars profit off that in 4 weeks. ...in 9th grade I made a bunch of websites and tried to get money off that, it did not work so great. ... this year (10th grade) I took 135 dollars and started to make business contacts in china. I then started to import things from china (wholesale) and began to sell them on eBay. In a couple months I was rolling in 1,500. I would not recommend importing from China unless you have a great, honest and trust worthy contact that wont rip you off. ... then (still 10th grade) I took 1,300 and invested it in the stock market. I started to play with stock options and i turned 1,300 into 3,000 in 2 weeks. ... as of now im just watching the stock market and looking for my next investment. Unfortunately, if you want an ebay, paypal, or stock market account you need to be 18 years or older, so you would need your parents to make one for you in their name, which is what mine did for me. Good Luck and remember ...Impossible is Nothing

Answer 11 :
1. If you are 15, one thing you want to do is calculate whether you want good pocket money now, or very good money later. If you want to be an accountant, you need to sacrifice money now and study hard! You will have GCSE exams relatively soon and then A levels and it is difficult to do well in A levels and have a job at the same time. 2. That being said, the rage for people of your age is starting a blog, getting lots of traffic, then selling it. Enjoy!

vat returns? can i file my own or do i need an accountant?
Tried to find the answer on HMRC'c website to no avail.... I don't need to be registered for vat just something im considering, i don't understand too much about it, i know basically you pay the vat when i buy building materials and i basically claim it back off the other stuff i buy, what i really need to know is can you file your own return for VAT or would it have to be done by a registered accountant? i file my own self assessment online, anyone sort of fill in the blanks for me?? chears steve
United Kingdom - 3 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
You can file your own VAT Returns. From April this year, it must be done electronically though. If you take more than 70k per financial year, you can register for VAT not knowing your circumstances ie: just self employed or run a company, take my advice and ring HMRC direct .. this is the number to contact :0845 010 9000 Good luck
Answer 2 :
see www.sjmaccounting.co.uk for free bookkeeping software and VAT info
Answer 3 :
You can file your own quite easily. But don't forget that once you are registered, not only do you claim back the VAT you pay on your purchases but you have to charge VAT to your customers. Don't know what line of business you are in but be careful in case that makes you expensive compared to your competitors. If your customers are VAT registered themselves it won't make a difference but if you deal with the public then an extra 20% on top of what you currently charge (from January on when the VAT rate goes up) could make you uncompetitive.

Yes, an accountant would get much more than most lawyers. All companies must have a accountants to know if they are making a profit or losing money. Not everyone needs a solicitor. A few are making really good money, most are starving. The military pays enough for them to pay the bills and enjoy a few recreational activities.
Answer 5 :
It depends if they are any good or not. Some lawyers and accountants earn hundreds of thousands a year, some earn less than £20 000 a year. It depends.
Answer 6 :
Lawyers are among the top-most earners in the UK - I saw the bank statement of a lawyer while cleaning up his chambers a couple of years ago - he had a take home income of £39,000 per month. He was working then as a company lawyer. Doctors can make from £500 per day and on up, depending on their skills - a doctor from Oz told me last year that he got that just for coming to UK and taking up the slack during the holiday period - and no, it was not Barry Humphries taking the piss.

What GCSEs should I take in order to become a Chartered Accountant?

What GCSEs should I take in order to become a Chartered Accountant?
Hi, Im in year 9... Through out my life I want to do a job related to maths. considering maths is my strongest subject, Ive decide to decate myself to accountancy. I have to choose my GCSEs options during this week, what subjects will help me or benefit me in be a chartered accountant? Apparently either Business studies or Economics will help me with my accountancy future. I had a look at both subject they look very interesting, but which one will be more relevant for accountancy? Thank you, so much!
Higher Education (University +) - 1 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
I think that you should take the subjects that you enjoy at GCSE! If you enjoy maths and would like to become an accountant then all you need to do is work hard in year 11 and get good grades in all your GCSE subjects. The big four accountancy firms are Deloitte, KPMG, PwC and Ernst and Young, and all they really want is someone who is intelligent and shows a good aptitude for Mathematics. At the end of the day the quickest (but not the only) route to accountancy is as follows, Good GCSE's > Good A levels > Go to a good university > Get at least a 2.1 in the degree > Apply to the graduate programme (a very long way off for you but I thought you may be interested) But I really would not worry too much at this stage about which GCSE's to take aslong as you have mathematics it does not really matter. I therefore advise you to pick the one you are most interested in, I personally prefer economics as it gives a more indepth study of the world and how companies operate within the world. However, business studies will allow you to look at actual balance sheets and learn how they work which is also interesting. I hope that helps

What GCSE options shall I take to become a nurse/doctor or an accountant?

What GCSE options shall I take to become a nurse/doctor or an accountant?
Hello, I want to become a nurse or doctor or an accountant. But I dont know what GCSE options I should take. I was thinking of Art and History because I really enjoy those subjects and someone told me that you dont have to do related subjects with medical because there's only science which is related. But then i wanted to become an accountant aswell, so I was thinking of doing Business Studies and History but i really enjoy Art, so what shall I take?? Please help me.. does it really matter at this stage what you want to take? Or is it A Levels that is more important in what you choose?? Pleaseee helppp.. thanks! also, do you need to do 2 languages to become an accountant or doctor or nurse? no, we're only allowed to do 2 optionaal subjects and 1 reserve..
Higher Education (University +) - 5 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
A levels matter far more than GCSE's. Just make sure to take subjects you like doing, that is the most important thing. When universities look at GCSE's, they will most likely look at the grade range and not subject choice.
Answer 2 :
Doctor: Maths English Biology First Aid Accountant: Maths English Business Studies Bookkeeping Not very many schools do all of these though, so good luck.
Answer 3 :
art and business studies are really good gcses, i really enjoyed them and came out with 3 As ( i done double award art) history will be good for medical history i guess, but other than that you will probably need your sciences, so take triple science if your school offers that. Also try and get a few weeks work experience in either a medical or accountancy environment
Answer 4 :
It is A Levels that count, so don't worry. Definitely take History - this is well respected and needed for the new government English Baccalaureate. If you are not already taking a language, make sure to take one, because you also need a language for the EB. When it comes to Art and Business Studies, I personally would recommend Business. This is EASY to get an A* in and is also very interesting (always a plus). With Art, THOUSANDS of candidates get literally 100% and then the grade boundaries start getting ridiculous, so unless you are amazing at Art, I'd say go with Business Studies, since you'll almost definitely get a better grade in it. Business was really interesting when I did it. But by all means take Art if you really LOVE it! And don't worry, GCSE options really don't matter that much at all - you can always pick subjects up at A Level e.g. I never took GCSE Geography, yet I'm now doing it for A Level and I'm still predicted an A*, so you really won't be at any disadvantage if you were to pick a subject up!! Don't worry! Best of wishes :)
Answer 5 :
I do business studies and i think now that is is my favourite lesson, i want to be a dentistt or something like that. i would do business and triple science (if you are not doing them early like i did) you should also chose a subject that you really like, something thats not to hard so that you can concentrate on other things more to get better grades dont think you need 2 languages to be a doctor or nurse i think that universities mainly look at grades depending or which course you want to do btw dont you get three options anyway(: good luck(:

what is the average salary for chartered accountants and what are the opportunities in the world of work?

Answer 1 :
The first Career Benchmarking Survey of ICAEW members in business reveals that the average salary is £79.4k with the largest group earning between £55k - £64k and 3% earning over £175k. Salaries also vary significantly by sector with the average salary highest in the financial services sector (£85k) and lowest in retail and wholesale (£70k) and manufacturing and engineering (£71k). Chartered Accounting is a highly regarded qualification in today’s business world. It is the designation that provides fantastic opportunities in terms of what you do and where you work.
Answer 2 :
It really depends on your country as well as where you live in that country.More information, tips and help at http://moreaboutsalary.blogspot.com/

I'm self employed and have an accountant. Do I have to notify Inland Revenue/anyone else if change accountant

I'm self employed and have an accountant. Do I have to notify Inland Revenue/anyone else if change accountant

United Kingdom - 11 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
No.
Answer 2 :
no
Answer 3 :
no
Answer 4 :
You don't have to but if you want them to contact your new accountant, rather than the old one, then it would make sense to let them know. VAT too if he does your returns.
Answer 5 :
no let that all come out when YOU ARE AUDITTED>>>>>
Answer 6 :
only if the inland revenue deals directly with your accountant. they usually deal direct with the person who owes the tax,
Answer 7 :
You are not obliged to notify anyone about the change. But your new accountant will probably ask you sign a form 64-8 which will authorise HMRC to talk to him about your tax affairs. This will replace any previous authority you signed with the old accountant.
Answer 8 :
No you can go to who you want but your new one may want info from the previous one.
Answer 9 :
You should tell your old accountant so that you don't get a surprise bill a few months down the line for "reminder letters" or "general assistance" or similar a.k.a. time dumped on the clock by junior staff when they have a quiet week in the expectation that they'll be able to hide it in your next bill when they prepare your accounts. If you have your self-employment set up through a company and you use your accountant's address as your registered office you should change that asap. Most accountants don't have ex-clients very high up on their priority list and it could be days before post gets forwarded. As someone else said, if your accountant also does your tax returns and normally deals directly with the Inland Revenue, you should let the Revenue know. While the Revenue are supposed to send copies of enquiry notices etc to you and only a copy to the agent, nobody's perfect. If your new accountant is taking over your tax, sign a 64-8 for him and they will tell the Revenue for you.
Answer 10 :
If you want your accountant to get information on your tax affairs, then yes. But your new accountant should do this for you if they are worth their salt! They'll fill out a form 64-8 and ask you to sign it to authorise them to receive information directly from HMRC re your tax. If you do not want your accountant to be contacted directly by HMRC there is no need to tell them.
Answer 11 :
no you dont have to. normally your new accountants will contact your old accountant with a clearence letter asking if they have any objections why they should not act on your behalf. they will also ask for bit of information such as copy of last accounts, tax return, outstanding tax bills etc.. if they are given the all clear, only after clearence can they ask you to sign a 64-8 form which basically give your authorisation for the Inland revenue to disclose and correspond with your new accountants. assuming that the old accountants already had this authorisation, it is important that a 64-8 by submitted by the new accounts to ensure any correspondance from the revenue goes to the right place. got 10 years of practice experience so i know what mess this can get you into if not done correctly.

what do u need to be an accountant?

what do u need to be an accountant?
im 28 years of age b in maths good book keeping do i need anything else do i need to do a course or can do it right away as my sis is opening her own shop and wants me to be hers many thanks
Other - Taxes - 3 Answers

Answer 1 :
Wood work or home economics would be advantageous.
Answer 2 :
spelling, punctuation, and grammar never hurts as well. Such as: I'm 28 years of age. I get b's in math. I have good bookkeeping skills. Do I need anything else? Do I need to do a course, or can I do it right away? My sis is opening her own shop and wants me to be hers. Many thanks. See how that works? My Accountant has a college degree in Accounting. I am not sure if I would trust an Accountant without a college degree to handle my business, but if your sister believes you can do it. Meh.... more power to her.
Answer 3 :
The course you need to become an accountant is called AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians). There are 3 levels, Foundation, Intermediate and Technician. Each level is 1 year long and is usually offered as a 1 day a week course or 2 evenings a week course. I dont know how much they cost to complete these days as I did mine a few years ago. However, you may be able to get some help with tuition fees depending on your personal circumstances. Have a look at your local college, they will be able to give you more information about the courses they run and if your lucky you may be able to start it this month if they have any places left. Good Luck!

what is the best way to be a quqlified accountant?

what is the best way to be a quqlified accountant?
hi, there, currently i am studying accounting and business at A level and i wanted to go to uni for BA program but i got confused with the ACCA course becouse i have many friends who does ACCA course and they are about to finsh within a year they didnt do a BA course and they are now telling me to do the ACCA course and i even approached lots of origansation who provide the course and they all said the same thing not waste time going to Uni instead of doing Acc within two years. please anyone out there can explain for me which is better to do and why? and if you want to be a qualified accountant, what you need to have? do you believe a degree is worthless nowdays?
Higher Education (University +) - 5 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
You could be a trainee accountant......... that way you would learn/ get paid/ and have experience........ I often see trainee accountant positions available
Answer 2 :
You have to pay attention to detail, for example, when you typed your question, certain words would have highlighted, pointing out a spelling error, you ignored it. Not good.
Answer 3 :
To be a professional accountant you will need to have a degree in accounting or business majoring in accounting. Typically these are 3 to 4 yrs duration. However, if have lower qualifications like a diploma in account keeping etc.. you maybe able to obtain advanced standing and be able to complete the degree in a shorter period of time. In Australia once you have your degree you would then usually go on to obtain your chartered accountant status.
Answer 4 :
A degree is far from worthless as it depends what you are going to do with it. If you want to be a qualified accountant and choose the degree route, you are looking at 3-4 years for the degree and the at least a year with further qualifications. The ACCA route would be much quicker (and reasonable with regards to £££) as your A Level qualifications would help you to "miss" units and only teach you what you need to know. And as below, you can usually find a placement with a company/firm, who will employ you while you train and often pay for your tutoring/exams/qualifications.
Answer 5 :
If you can afford it, still go to Uni. You can do the ACCA or other accounting qualification afterwards, and should find that many of the modules of work will be exempted because of your degree. You may find that ACCA is not the right qualification for the type of accountancy you want to do. A degree will give you a good solid grounding, and insight into the type of accountancy you prefer.

what career should i go for if i am after money? chartered accountant or chemical engineer? please help. thanx?

what career should i go for if i am after money? chartered accountant or chemical engineer? please help. thanx?
i am only in year 11 right now, doing my GCSEs. but i already have to decide what career i want to go for because i really need to earn at least 35000 pounds a year after about 3-5 years of doing my job. this is because my family is a very poor family and we somehow got a mortgage for a house. and it will take about 20 years for it to be ours. i want it sooner so i can give it to my sister as a present for my parents and my sister. so anyway back to the question. what job should i do to be rich chartered accountant or chemical engineer. what job can get me up to making 100k pounds a year (100k is my goal for life). i am thinking of doing chemical engineering for degree. and then after the degree i am planning to do the tests and course for chartered accounting. thank you. please try and help

Answer 1 :
I respect you, and myself, I am going to try to see if I could become a trainee accountant whilst I am also in university. I don't know money-wise, it would depend upon which firm you work for, or even which type of chemical engineering you go to work in. Pharmaceutical or synthetics? Both jobs have a wide spectrum, so don't discount one from the other. Find your niche and then you'll have more direction.
Answer 2 :
If you wana get up to 100 K then u gotta get into managment level, probably wont earn 100k just doing a job
Answer 3 :
I think I told you this before when you were asking the same repeated question in the Engineering section. Anyway, here I go again and this time LISTEN " Oh, Yawn and Yawn and Yawn again. I have said this before and I have a feeling that I will be telling you this again. IF YOUR DRIVING FORCE IS MONEY DO NOT BE AN ENGINEER. BE A MERCHANT BANKER IN LONDON WHERE THE REWARDS ARE 10 TIMES THAT OF AN ENGINEER - AND THAT IS THEIR BASIC SALARY. FAILING THAT BECOME INVOLVED IN SECURITY IN ONE OF THE WAR ZONES WHERE YOU CAN EARN UP TO £1000 A DAY. Now Pleeeeeeeeeeeese stop asking the same question again, and again, and again....... ....." If your family is very poor this is commendable to help them, however with parents and siblings who might be able to help out don't take it onto yourself to provide for everyone. Most mortgages take 20 to 25 years to pay off so don't complain about that. If you can't afford it you can extend the term of the mortgage - costs more over the term of it but smaller monthly payments letting you have a better quality of life. Or move into a smaller property somewhere cheaper. Then there is a bit about your guilt. Most parents love it when their child goes away to study and then start on the career path - they can see their child doing something they enjoy. If you feel guilty about not contributing back to your family then you stop doing a job you enjoy. This is bad and your parents don't want that. If you are careful you can live a single life on a starting salary for an engineer, get a partner and have 2 salaries and you are better off - and have spare cash to help parents. Now as for demanding £35k - if your short term goal is to give your family cash then you can do that at a much lower salary. Right now I have said that, Pleeeeeeeeeeeeese stop asking the same question again and again and again - Spamming the website is not so good
Answer 4 :
An accountant will not only rarely be out of work but they often end up running companies. As a qualified accountant you can get into lots of high paid industries including Banking, Management Consultancy and Private Equity.

Sage is the market leader, and we use it.
Answer 2 :
Quickbooks is a popular program.
Answer 3 :
Sage is the non-free, professional one. The two biggest open-source/free ones are GNUcash and Grisbi. There are actually loads of open-source free ones. Heck, you could even use Microsoft Excel if you are desperate!
Answer 4 :
They almost all use Sage, which is the industry standard. It helps if businesses use it as well, as it makes it easier to give the accounts to the accountant. Sage is very powerful, but with that comes complexity, although like anything, if you spend time using it you get the hang of it, and your accountant should be able to help you with any problems you have.
Answer 5 :
In India, 'Tally' is the most popular and simplest package. It is also used in other countries.

Answer 1 :
Before an Accountant can apply for a skilled immigration visa, they must have their qualifications, training and post-qualification experience assessed by one of three assessment bodies. Those assessment bodies don't simply look at your qualification but rather they assess the course you took and the subjects you passed in that course. For information on skills assessment for Accountants, follow the links from the ASRI listing for the profession: http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/occupations/a/accountant-general.htm

Me and my husband have to meet a new accountant for our business ?
i have a family to look after and now my youngest has started school i want to do some regular hours in our office to help out .Up until now i have only really done the books a few times a year so basically it is a rush job to get all of our financial books in every year i know it is disorganised. Now i really want to improve upon this situation and be more efficient .The new accountant is really looking forward to meeting me but because i haven't done anything on a regular scale i don't know what to say to her do i be honest and tell her how disorganised i am or just try and fudge my way through it what do you think? i am just going to end up looking a right fool and i know its my own fault funnily enough my hubby isnt too bothered he will probley let me dig myself into a big hole .
Small Business - 6 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Just be honest. She will find out later anyway if you haven't kept up to date and she's probably used to clients not having everything organised. Im sure it wont be a problem.
Answer 2 :
Be honest. she is going to be able to tell eventually and she'll have a lot more trust for you, if she knows you were upfront. And don't be embarassed... most small businesses operate this way. We try not to!! But you know how it is, there is always something else and this just isn't a "fun" thing.
Answer 3 :
For f*cks sake you are paying her! Why should you be embarrassed? When you consider that you have to provide all the information for an accountant to use, why don't you think seriously about DIY now you have more time on your hands. You only have to look at the accountant's fees for encouragement. There is a choice of software out there to help you out. Look on the net for reviews to choose a good one.
Answer 4 :
Your worrying about it to much she or he is not going to bite your head off, just be honest and Im sure you will come out of there feeling good about yourself.
Answer 5 :
Trust me, I have an Accountant and he would see straight through me if I tried to "fudge my way through". I started as a Company Secretary a few years ago, with no experience at all. My Accountant showed me everything from scratch and now I do the wages, tax, cis tax, NI and all the book-keeping. Don't try to con your Accountant into thinking you know more than you do. Be honest, ask for her assistance and get her on-side. I honestly believe that a good, approachable Accountant is one of the best assets a small business can have.
Answer 6 :
Don't worry about it. Our accountants have clients who just hand them carrier bags full of receipts at the end of the year and says that's what's happened over the year. Those people are never embarrassed. Make a friend of the accountant and ask what's the best way that you can keep records so that they don't have to do so much for you at the year end, which should keep their fees down. I keep all our accounts on Excel spreadsheets and give that to the accountant at the year end. He's able to do everything from that once I've done a stock check and given him a list of debtors and creditors. As others have said, there's no point in fudging what you've done. You've had your reasons. Tell her you now want to be more organised, ask for her help to make her life and yours easier and you should have a good business friend. Good luck!

Sorry mate two of your criteria let you down to go to Aussie land. 1 - You can read and write 2 - You definitely need a Criminal record
Answer 2 :
go to the Aussie immigration web site or phone Aussie counsel
Answer 3 :
Im not sure of the criteria for acceptance into oz these days. When my cousin was over last year he said it is really hard to get in now. Apparently you have to set your own business up,employ some australian nationals and prove you have enough money to live for 6 months if you cant work. What a pity we dont do the same thing in the UK.
Answer 4 :
Yeah I think you sound pretty perfect (I was going to make a very silly joke about a dating site but I figured this wasn't the time or the place :-) ) But anyway, I once found a rather lovely website for emigration and you typed in your qualifications and that and they'd say the yay or nay... unfortunately I haven't a clue where I saw it so that doesn't help... try googling emigration to australia or something. Have nice day.
Answer 5 :
have you got corks in your hat.........seriously i dont think you will have any problems, you are both proffesional upcoming people.....most countries would take you on
Answer 6 :
http://www.immi.gov.au/ is the Aussie government's website which will have the official answers and points of contact for all of your questions. Best of Luck!
Answer 7 :
I think Pat M is right but you can also line up a definate job before you go out there. I also think they assess you after 6 months to see if you fit in
Answer 8 :
Yes for sure! This is beacuse the person is British and is part of the Commonwealth, Also this person fits all good categories. In most cases the Australian Government is worried about people who have citizenships from developing countries where there is little or no work and where there is poverty levels which in most cases they try to stay here illegally.
Answer 9 :
When I saw your initial profile, I would have said that you and your missus would be a certainty, but then I saw your PS, the bit about you being POMS! We don't need any more bloody Poms here! Just kidding, mate. As long as youse dont wear a tea towel on yer head, then you're welcome - I'll save a beer for ya!
Answer 10 :
Lucky you. You tick ALL the boxes. What are you waiting for.? GO.GO.GO. GOOD LUCK

What does an accounting job require?

What does an accounting job require?
Hi there, Can anyone tell me in easy language what are the jobs and duties of a small accountant? I am doing a diploma in accounting and wonder what would be my duties to be performed in a small accounting job! Also what kind of job I will be undertaking if I start working as an independent accountant for small shops, and sloe trader businesses? I am interested to know if I am learning the things in my current course what my future potential job will require. I am based in London. Any advice will be appreciated.

Answer 1 :
Hang on a sec. You are doing an accounting diploma and you have no idea what is involved in an accounting job. You surely cannot be serious!!!
Answer 2 :
Hi there. You can hold different kind of works on the accounting area. In small business most probably you will perform the day-by-day book keeping. Actually, this is not considered the most fashion work (you know - only debits and credits) but all companies even the smallest ones must have it. Other work that you can have is related to tax. Anyway, as soon as you got your degree, go and take a certification in accounting like ICAEW. For sure it will help you on your future. Additionally (I think this is the best) go work on a big4 firm (assurance department) and ask to work the middle market. With this will gonna have a good resume and experience. Good luck.

Would it be so wrong to be an accountant & have pink hair?

Would it be so wrong to be an accountant & have pink hair?
Up until recently I had bright pink hair (think Stephanie from Lazy-Town!) and went for a pre-job-interview chat with an employment agency. I was told that if I went to the proper interview without changing my hair colour I wouldn't even be let in the building. Unfortunately I backed down & changed my hair but this has really got to me. I realise that if you're training to be an accountant like I am you're expected to look a certain way (nice suit, smart appearance etc) but I also know that my hair colour doesn't affect my ability to do a job. Surely someone with tidy, neat pink hair like I had looks smarter than someone with brown or blond messy hair? Plus, I wouldn't even be meeting clients or the public, just talking to them on the phone. Do you think there would be any way of keeping the pink hair & getting a decent job? Also, could anyone tell my why it would matter what my hair colour was as long as I'm smart and presentable (which i am)?

Buy a balaclava.
Answer 3 :
how bout a walmart greeter with a inverted mohawk and porkchop sideburns..... mmm yeah think about that sound pretty cool.....
Answer 4 :
Yes. People won't trust You with their finances if You have pink hair. Would You?
Answer 5 :
Hi No, not so wrong at all, however on the other hand, if you want to be taken seriously there are certain types of dress code and it shows professionalism and manners to conform, would you trust someone to write you an important letter if all they did was txt type, horses for courses. Ray. West York's. U.K. And yes "vswho" that's only the women.
Answer 6 :
Does the carpet match the drapes? Just kidding. Seriously, you will have a very hard time with it. No the color of your hair doesn't effect your job performance. However, it's the business world and there are a lot of rules/etiquette that you will not be able to change. Remember, most of the power/authority in your line of work will be held by people 20 yrs older than you. They have probably been in accounting/finance their entire careers and consider themselves "Professionals". So when a new "Kid" comes bouncing in off the street trying to buck the system, you can expect problems.
Answer 7 :
I totally agree with you! Although, I don't know how the employer would react - whether they would be really tunnel visioned in their expectations in how an accountant 'should' look. Obviously, it wouldn't affect your ability to do your job - as you've said. But you know how some people can be... I'm wondering whether you could ease the pink back in gradually, either for interviews, or once you get the job you want - starting with say, some pink streaks, while gradually going back to the full-blown Stephanie/Lazy Town pink hair? Good for you if you manage to achieve it! Nelly x
Answer 8 :
The business world has a certain dress code that you must adhere to. You can be free, in this country, to express yourself. This doesn't mean you're entitled to a job. Decide which is more important to you, pink hair or 70k per year.
Answer 9 :
I think you are right, the colour of your hair does not make you less professional. If people wants to judge a book by its cover, then you should sell your book to them but only to those who are interested to buy and read it.
Answer 10 :
It would depend on where you were working & what kind of company they are, most firms will have a dress code that they will expect you to abide by. It's not just about meeting clients, it about the people you will be expected to work with & even just people watching you walk into the building on a regular basis. People are very simple minded they will make certain assumptions about you based on your hair colour before you even open your mouth to dissuade them. Have a chat with your hairdresser, see if they have any solutions to the dilemma that might allow you to express yourself. If you have slightly longish hair perhaps a slice of colour in your parting that could be concealed during the week?
Answer 11 :
I would love to have an accountant with pink hair. It would say to me that they are creative and might have new ideas on how to look at things. It might just be where you live holding you back.
Answer 12 :
I wouldn't consider it at all for an interview. If you truly have no contact with the public or clientele after getting the job you could explore the possibility then. You must prove yourself first. Definitely not during the interview or the first 90 days on the job. If you decide to color it later it may impact your possibilities for advancement.

What info do I need to include in accounts?

What info do I need to include in accounts?
My bf and I started up in business last year. The people we rent our sites from want to see our accounts. I'm a whiz with Excel but I'm not sure what information they will expect to see. We are supposed to give our accountants the info regularly but haven't been sending them it. Can anyone help? It's a catering business and we rent sites from the people that generate the business for us. We took the contract on on the basis that they would review our accounts...and then our rent... after six months. I have all the information I think I'll need I just don't know what they're expecting!
United Kingdom - 4 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
When you say 'sites' what are you referring to? Web sites or physical locations... For websites, I'd tell them its none of their business. I've never had to do that in 20 years of business. Send a message to my yahoo account via this if you need any more info... (One of my businesses is web hosting and I can't for the life of me think why they would want to see your business accounts) Chris
Answer 2 :
They'll probably want to see your account ledgers. Balance sheet, and income statement if you have them. Essentially they want proof of your solvency to assure them you'll be able to make the rental payments. (They may ask to see a bank statement, to prove that your deposits match your reported income.) Ask them what they specifically need to know, it'll help you get them the information they need without all the guessing.
Answer 3 :
They probably want to see a profit and loss account and a balance sheet. I can't see what information they could get just from looking at your cash book, unless they want to ensure you have a steady income. I would talk to your accountant for some advice, thats what you pay them for!!
Answer 4 :
Produce the true accounts showing profit and loss. Presumably you agreed to this in the rental contract and I expect that if you are doing well they will want to increase the rent? Or is the rent in some way based on your turnover or profit?

What is the average starting salary for a trainee chartered accountant in NI?

What is the average starting salary for a trainee chartered accountant in NI?
I have recently got the job offer of trainee chartered accountant with the starting salary of 10K. I was thinking this was a bit low as another one of my friends has a job as a trainee accountant in another firm for a lot more of a salary, which doesn't make sense to me at all?? Does it matter who the job is for and on what background degrees a person did. My friend did a degree in accountancy, where as I did a degree in mathematics. As well as this, I did a masters in Risk management and financial regulation, and was wondering if I am I over qualified for this job and should look elsewhere for better oppurtunites?

I wouldn't look elsewhere. You are well qualified, but a qualification without a job is meaningless. Furthermore, the job market is dire at the moment; thus I recommend you keep your job and work your way up to a higher salary.

How would I go about becoming an Accountant?

How would I go about becoming an Accountant?
I am 15, finishing school this year. I am on for an A in my maths GCSE, three modules, scored an A on the first, B on the second, I am average A because of the marks I got. I am going to study maths in 6th form and get an A level in it, I was also planning to study Biology and Chemistry - as I'm doing seperate science GCSE right now, thats instead of 1 science GCSE I get 3 GCSEs, one in biology, chemistry and physics. And english media. To become an accountant, do you recommend I do different A levels? Which best accompany maths in that way. With my A levels, then what should I do? My parents say that if I can get in an accountancy firm, they will put me through the degree faster than university, while paying me, does anyone know how it works, what grades I'll need to get in my A levels etc etc? Thanks.

How do you go about becoming an Accountant? (I'm 16!)?

How do you go about becoming an Accountant? (I'm 16!)?
Obviously i don't want to become an accountant at this age (just to make that clear lol) I have a few questions about Accountancy.... I'm really interested in the whole idea of the business and finance sector and i think accountancy is an appropriate job choice for the future... However, as i'm only 16 i've just picked my A Levels to study this september and i've chosen: IFS (Institue of Financial Services Qualification), Double Applied Business, History & Physcology However, my boyfriend wants to be accoutnant also and has been doing an AAT course at college (he is 17) How would i go about doing all these Accounting qualifications if i'm going to be in full time education next year at sixth form Also how do you get into accounting? I'm not sure if i want to go to university yet and if you're going to do accounting at uni i'm sure you need Maths A Level, and i'm not amazing at maths (accounting uses calcultors alot of the time which is useful for me) I'm sorry it's long, but can anyone give me some advice into getting into accounting because as i'm getting older i need to think about my job choices!

Whats the best route to become an Accountant via university?

Whats the best route to become an Accountant via university?
Im 17, ive just finished my AS levels and I should get grades of roughly ACC and i am going to pick up another another double business A2 level and fit it in a year had aim for a grade C. I have a grade B in GCSE maths and english literature and a grade C at GCSE English. I am hoping to go university to study accounting and possibly law or a joint Hons in both at bournemouth possibly. I would like advice on any specific universities that specialise in accounting or any relevant courses i could apply for at university that would benefit my career. i would also like to find out about what steps i would take after my degree and if a placement year (sandwich degree) is better to progress my career. I would also like to know about any masters degrees or phd there are involving accounting and if they are worth thinking about. I mainly would like to know what to do after my degree to become an accountant. Thank you for your time in reading this essay. I hope you can help me.

In London you hav e the famous London School of Economics. Imao it could be a goode institution for your accounting plans.
Answer 2 :
At ACC level it will be unrealistic to pursue LSE. What I recommend is - get into a university that will give you accreditation. After your BSc, it is not useful to do a Masters. Accounting is all about the experience and getting the professional qualification. By the second year of our BSc, you will have the chance to intern in an accounting firm. After you graduation, try to start in one of the graduate programmes in the auditing firms. You will clock your "experience hours" with the firm and meanwhile study for your qualification (ACA, or ICAS, for example.) You should pass your exams in 3 years and become a qualified accountant.
