Would it be allowed under UK law to work in a full-time job but still do a PhD in Maths and Finance?

Would it be allowed under UK law to work in a full-time job but still do a PhD in Maths and Finance?
I'm hoping to become a full-time trainee accountant once I finish my Master's Degree in mathematics and gain a Level 4 Diploma as an accounts technician, but sitting a PhD would be additional income of £13K-£19K per year! Doing both would make me quite well-off for a young man, but would it be allowed?

Answer 1 :
There is no law against two jobs, as long as you pay the appropriate tax.
Answer 2 :
You can work as much as you want if you're from the UK. Immigrants, however, have a limit on the number of hours they can work as students. Think it's 20 hours per week.
Answer 3 :
Why on earth do you think it might not be? Many thousands of people have full time jobs and do open university or part time courses. If doing the degree interfered with your current job then your employers might have something to say but it is nothing whatsoever to do with the government.
Answer 4 :
My son has a PhD and it was full time. He was sponsored by BP and had to be in the office and laboratory every day. PhDs are very hard work that is why they are so sought after by employers. There is no law against having a job as well, but your professor might have something to say about it. UK
Answer 5 :
what possible laws would you be breaking??? the main factor would be TIME - would classes and school access be available after work hours? if you want to be an Accountant, you be be majoring in Accounting/Business, not Math getting a Masters in Math is a total waste of time and money and will get you ZERO additional income if you are working in Accounting - what is your Bachelor's degree in?

I am a travel and tourism national diploma student, my mother is an accountant, we are looking to move abroad in a quite little village somewhere & to travel to work by car. Answer 1 :
I reckon so.
Answer 2 :
i dont think so. italy is nice.
Answer 3 :
Judging by the amount of Portuguese people coming to work over here, I'd say no
Answer 4 :
i heard the work there is very tight at moment. unless your setting up own business and speak the language very good i dont think there much hope...
Answer 5 :
Portugal is a very nice place to live. Yes, there are a lot of Portuguese people living abroad BUT remember that those people move to other places because they do not want to study in Portugal so they move and go other places to have less skilled jobs like clean other people houses , construction works and such. So, if you have your degree I recommend Portugal. Its clean, really sunny and peace full, and people are nice and welcoming ;) And besides, most Portuguese's people speak fluently English ;)
Answer 6 :
Do you think they will like English immigrants? Will they be right to say that they are full and we should stay put?
Answer 7 :
the job state at the moment is very difficult as it is in the rest of europe..
Answer 8 :
i am from portugal and it is a Great place to live , yes its True its hard to find work but as as an accountant ur mum will have no problems finding work at all but in travel in tourism i am not so sure .... as long as u can learn the language you will find work somewhere ... good luck ='.'=

What job did you want to do as a child/teenager and do this become reality?

What job did you want to do as a child/teenager and do this become reality?
1.)What job did you want to do as a child/teenager? Did you have burning ambitions to be a fireman, doctor or vet? Maybe something like an actor, musician or sportsman? Are you one of these people who have wanted to be an accountant from Birth? 2.) Did these dreams become reality

A sleazy cruise ship singer. and no, it didn't come true.
Answer 2 :
I really wanted to be a tornado chaser after seeing the movie "Twister". Now I am an Air Force weather forecaster and will have my bachelor degree in meteorology at the end of this year. So, yes I'm doing weather as a career and could possibly go tornado chasing, but it's not my actual job.
Answer 3 :
i always wanted to become a nurse! ambition fulfilled!
Answer 4 :
A vet, did 2 weeks work experience in Germany and nearly fainted, unfortunatley blood and guts was not for me.
Answer 5 :
I was desperate to become a mechanic. Ended up in electronics... ho hum Now I want to play guitar - gonna make that ambition happen :-)
Answer 6 :
I wanted to be a vet or veterinary nurse. My Dad couldn't afford to send me to uni, so the dream was a no goer before it started. I have ended up as a training manager/adviser/superviser for a very well known charity. (paid) It's not something I ever dreamed I would become and now have a career which is interesting and different every day. I love it. I also work for the NHS, which I really don't like.
Answer 7 :
As a child I wanted to be a vet, but due to being bullied & missing some school my grades were affected :( That idea went out of the window as I didn't pursue science subjects at college. When I got to 18 I had no idea what I wanted to do and at 23 I still don't! I'm a Receptionist which has never been my ambition and I've never really enjoyed the work. Now I'm thinking about a career with animals again, maybe a vet nurse! I realised recently that the welfare of animals is my true passion, and earning a good wage but being bored out of my mind is just not worth it!!
Answer 8 :
The first job I wanted to do was be an Archaeologist. Before I even knew what one was I used to spend all my time outside digging in the garden. All photos of me as a kid are with me with my trusty trowel.I can still hear my Mum shouting " gerrout of theat bleedin' soil!" lol I found loads of stuff which wasn't bad going for a council semi in Liverpool ;-) Did still want to be one aged 14 when choosing options only I was told by careers teacher that I would need A level maths. I'm crap at maths so.... Obviously went in a civil service nursing direction. Harumph.
Answer 9 :
I wanted to be a teacher - but I'm a nursery nurse. I think it's close enough, in the end it changed because actually I much prefer working with this age group than older kids.
Answer 10 :
I dreamed of having a huge office and making important decisions that made money---dream fuflilled except I am making that money for someone else. Currently I am working on trading in the big office for making sure the money I am making with my decisions goes to me...not the company. I want to be self employed by 2012
