Answer 1 :
You can file your own VAT Returns. From April this year, it must be done electronically though. If you take more than 70k per financial year, you can register for VAT not knowing your circumstances ie: just self employed or run a company, take my advice and ring HMRC direct .. this is the number to contact :0845 010 9000 Good luck
Answer 2 :
see www.sjmaccounting.co.uk for free bookkeeping software and VAT info
Answer 3 :
You can file your own quite easily. But don't forget that once you are registered, not only do you claim back the VAT you pay on your purchases but you have to charge VAT to your customers. Don't know what line of business you are in but be careful in case that makes you expensive compared to your competitors. If your customers are VAT registered themselves it won't make a difference but if you deal with the public then an extra 20% on top of what you currently charge (from January on when the VAT rate goes up) could make you uncompetitive.

Does a solicitor or lawyer get better pay than an army officer?

Does a solicitor or lawyer get better pay than an army officer?
also would an accountant get better pay than both?

Answer 1 :
it depends on the type and clients but they all about the same in general
Answer 2 :
Yes, This may seem a bit odd, but. The Army do not get much money/ wage as they are funded by the government, and with the problem with our economy at the moment, the government is hard of cash. Hope this helps.
Answer 3 :

Answer 4 :
Yes, an accountant would get much more than most lawyers. All companies must have a accountants to know if they are making a profit or losing money. Not everyone needs a solicitor. A few are making really good money, most are starving. The military pays enough for them to pay the bills and enjoy a few recreational activities.
Answer 5 :
It depends if they are any good or not. Some lawyers and accountants earn hundreds of thousands a year, some earn less than £20 000 a year. It depends.
Answer 6 :
Lawyers are among the top-most earners in the UK - I saw the bank statement of a lawyer while cleaning up his chambers a couple of years ago - he had a take home income of £39,000 per month. He was working then as a company lawyer. Doctors can make from £500 per day and on up, depending on their skills - a doctor from Oz told me last year that he got that just for coming to UK and taking up the slack during the holiday period - and no, it was not Barry Humphries taking the piss.

What is your goal in life and what drives you toward that goal?
Im a 24 year old woman and my goal is to become an accountant and be comfortable financially. I am driven towards this as in my current job i see alot of women losing their homes when they seperate from their husbands. I don't ever want to be in a position where i have to rely on someone else financially and when i have children i want to know i can provide a good life for them without the worry of money. Are ya kidding? Chartered accountants earn shed loads!!

Ultimate self-reliance. To be the guy who can walk naked into the woods and come out with a fur coat and a million dollar smile. Specialization is for insects.

Personally, my goal in life is to become a cat. I don't know how I'm going to do it, but someday, I'm going to transform into a friendly little feline. But not just any feline. I'm going to be a super feline of the highest quality, the kind of cat that can shoot lasers out of its eyes, and fly at incredible speeds. I would also be a talking cat. And I would drink lots of milk. Good for the bones.

What GCSEs should I take in order to become a Chartered Accountant?

What GCSEs should I take in order to become a Chartered Accountant?
Hi, Im in year 9... Through out my life I want to do a job related to maths. considering maths is my strongest subject, Ive decide to decate myself to accountancy. I have to choose my GCSEs options during this week, what subjects will help me or benefit me in be a chartered accountant? Apparently either Business studies or Economics will help me with my accountancy future. I had a look at both subject they look very interesting, but which one will be more relevant for accountancy? Thank you, so much!

I think that you should take the subjects that you enjoy at GCSE! If you enjoy maths and would like to become an accountant then all you need to do is work hard in year 11 and get good grades in all your GCSE subjects. The big four accountancy firms are Deloitte, KPMG, PwC and Ernst and Young, and all they really want is someone who is intelligent and shows a good aptitude for Mathematics. At the end of the day the quickest (but not the only) route to accountancy is as follows, Good GCSE's > Good A levels > Go to a good university > Get at least a 2.1 in the degree > Apply to the graduate programme (a very long way off for you but I thought you may be interested) But I really would not worry too much at this stage about which GCSE's to take aslong as you have mathematics it does not really matter. I therefore advise you to pick the one you are most interested in, I personally prefer economics as it gives a more indepth study of the world and how companies operate within the world. However, business studies will allow you to look at actual balance sheets and learn how they work which is also interesting. I hope that helps
